Let’s dance after more than two years again! The era of foolish twenties rebegins in V-klub

Bratislava swing May rag brings the atmosphere of famous dance parties of the First Republic and will be again full of energic hot jazz and swing music, dancing, goodies and not least a positive esprit! And this time without prohibition.

During the season of May balls and dances, National Cultural Centre and civil society organisation Swingmania are going to cooperate to bring you something special – dance in the rhythm of hot jazz and swing in a club legend of Bratislava.

On Saturday May, the 25th an extraordinary event will be taking place in here. The swing orchestra Fats Jazz Band led by Ladislav Fanzowitz will perform live. The May Ball will also be enriched by a special fashion show with original dresses from 1920s and 1930s from private collection of museum Lednice dávná – Jak se žilo za Tatíčka Masaryka. As always, make sure to get captured this memorable evening on camera at the vintage photo corner.

From charleston to swing, Travel through time into the era of glamorous dance parties of 1920s – 1940s. Dress code is not mandatory, but vintage clothes will be appreciated. Whether you like to enjoy good music with a glass of wine, or you prefer to dance away the night as your feet cannot remain long under the chair, this event is for you.

Great musicians and charming singers will not only shift you into the prohibition era rouhly a centure ago, they will also perform the chestnuts of that era of the Slovak pop by František Krištof Veselý and Czech star Inka Zemánková.

Fats Jazz Band brings oldstyle songs, which its authentic, stylish and spontaneous interpretation brings to the present. It was spontaneity that gave the music of this period its charm, and it will undoubtedly bring you to the presence of the Fats Jazz Band. The sound of the orchestra evokes something timeless in people.

The repertoire of the Fats Jazz Band contains the most interesting pieces of the legendary 30s and 40s American jazzman, Thomas “Fats” Waller, whose name the orchestra adopted into its name. There are also compositions by other important figures of the jazz scene of this period, such as Louis Armstrong, Teddy Wilson, Lester Young, Billie Holiday, Clarence Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Benny Goodman or Gene Krupa. The repertoire of this ensemble also includes Slovak compositions, foxtrots and thongs, which are famous doyen of Slovak popular music, František Krištof Veselý, as well as several compositions from Czech provenance.

Fats Jazz Band is a first class nine-member orchestra steeped in the hot jazz and swing music from late 1920s till 1940s. It was initiated by Ladislav Fanzowitz, one of the best present-day Slovak pianists. The orchestra plays original hot jazz and swing music which takes you to another world, makes your blood boil and brings you back in the time to the era of elegance, glamour gowns and hot parties.

Fats Jazz Band is authentic, Ladislav Fančovič transcribes carefully chosen tunes from old shellacs by ear to music scores. That’s why you have a unique opportunity to listen to the original arrangements as they were played by early jazz legends in their time. Furthemore, the band also uses reconstructed array of historucal music instruments and stylish clothes. The whole impression of the orchestra fully grasps the period and style that this orchestra represents.
