Solstice on the Danube

Solstice on the Danube is a chain of public events and community happenings on the river whose aim is to attract more attention, life and people to the river in the month of the solstice before the summer holiday season arrives. It is a month of open beaches, open houses and a variety of activities for the general public, as well as an introduction to the diversity of events and to the various communities and organizations which operate along the river.

June 2, 2017, 10:00 am, Vladimír Kompánek – Pictures and Sculptures, Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum

An exhibition presents  a European Format artist whose work has significantly influenced modern art in Slovakia, and for example works by artists such as Joan Miró in Spain. The character of his art is especially close to the Slavic peoples.

June 17, 2017, 9:00 am, Danube Day, Gabčíkovo Dam

This event celebrates International Danube Day, and this year also the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Gabčíkovo Dam. The event includes a number of contests for children and a cultural program for both young and old.

June 18, 2017, 12:00 noon, RIVER SHOW 2017, EUROVEA Embankment and Square

River Show is playing a role in showcasing life along the Danube in Bratislava.

June 23, 2017, 3:00 pm, Midsummer Pleasure Cruise across the Danube on the KRIVÁŇ, operated by SVP, š. p., – from Magio Beach, Bratislava Petržalka Embankment to Bratislava – Old Town below EUROVEA and near River Park

On Friday, June 23, 2017 the public will have a unique opportunity to get from the Old City or from Petržalka to the other side in a different way than anytime else during the year, sailing on a passenger ship, the Kriváň. To celebrate International Danube Day, SVP, š. p, is inviting anyone with the desire to go on a free cruise on the Danube: single, couples, families with children or seniors. In the afternoon, there will be a chance to try painting and drawing on board the Kriváň. In the evening, guests will be able to relax on board after an entire day and a demanding week with a view of both sides of the Danube at Bratislava. From the Old Town, it’s just a short hop across the water to Janko Král Orchard or Magio Beach where a musical program or a DJ will be waiting. From Petržalka, passengers can disembark from the boat at the Old Town Promenade by River Park or get off near EUROVEA shopping center. June 24, 2017, 10:00 am, Solstice at Devín, Devín Castle 

This event originates from historical documents describing the Celts at Devín, who came to the area at the end of the Iron Age. This single-day event highlights how the Celts lived, with the focus on their traditions, customs and historical links through music, dance, workshops and interactive lectures.

June 30, 2017, Bratislava-Inline along the Danube

Bratislava-inline is a traditional evening ride on inline roller skates (and bicycles) through the city over roads that ordinarily belong to cars and mass transit. In the 14th edition of this event, the first ride will be along the Danube, with the route starting near the DUNAJ Department Store and then down Dunajská ulica (Danube Street) and along the Danube embankment. The event is for all ages, free of charge and with no registration required. Ride for joy, with music and friends, and in good spirits.
