UFO vertical sprint

Bratislava is set for another stair race. Space is limited to 300 runners!

Amateur and professional athletes alike will have the opportunity to test their strength in this unique stair race. On Sunday 19 June 2016, Slovakia’s capital city will be the venue for the 4th Annual UFO Vertical Sprint, where competitors will run up the stairs to Bratislava’s UFO watch.taste.groove on top of the SNP Bridge.

Competitors will face 23 flights of stairs – exactly 430 stairs.

All sports enthusiasts are welcome to register, whether they want to test their fitness level or simply try out the stairs to the UFO that are usually closed to the public.

Besides doing something beneficial for their health, runners will be participating in a race that has a long tradition throughout the world. For decades, runners have been conquering skyscrapers, towers and exterior stairs. Two hundred and fifty similar races take place throughout the world during the year, with approximately 140,000 participants. This year, the UFO Vertical Sprint is part of the Czech-Slovak 2016 stair race cup.

UFO Vertical Sprint is also the final race of Towerrunning 200 Vienna-Brno-Bratislava, and a part of the Towerrunning Tour 2016, a Towerrunning World Association event. We are expecting a large turnout of world-class stair runners.

One of the aims of the UFO Vertical Sprint is to turn this sport into a tradition in Slovakia and to give everyone the opportunity to try this out-of-the-ordinary discipline. The race is limited to 300 runners. The timer starts when the runners leave the starting line (the beach below the UFO, about 50 metres from the pylon of the SNP Bridge) and stops when the finish line is reached on the observatory deck on the 23rd floor.

Interesting fact: last year’s winner, Tomáš Čelko, had a time well below two minutes! You can register for the race online from 4 March until 12 June, or until all the spaces are reserved, at: registrace.sportsoft.cz
