Iron Curtain Bike Tour

During the 2,5-hour tour we will hear controversial stories of urban transformation and life during socialism, visit a bunker built by the Czechoslovak army in 1930`s.

Bicycle tour for anyone who feels like exploring off-the-beaten-track places in Bratislava and its outskirts. This easy route avoids hills and is 15 kilometres long.

After meeting in the Old Town, we head along the Danube river, exploring the last remaining buildings of the district demolished in the 1960’s and new riverside developments.

Behind the Lafranconi bridge, we find ourselves in a deep lowland forest in the former Iron Curtain border zone with Austria. This is a unique area, dotted by military bunkers from the 1930’s.

Visiting the oldest public park in Central Europe and crossing the Danube back to the Old Town, discover the contrasts between medieval and modern, Blue Church vs. retro/new shopping malls.

Duration: 2 – 2,5 hours
Additional information: Difficulty and safety: 14 kilometres on flat terrain. Anyone with basic cycling skills can manage. Almost all the route follows designated cycling tracks and pavements with no traffic. Helmets are provided upon request free of charge.
