MIB Talk: Transformácia brownfieldov

The hidden potential of a compact city.

Abandoned sites, unused land, forgotten places. Today, brownfields are not a problem, but one of Bratislava’s greatest opportunities for sustainable and compact urban development from within.

How can the transformation of brownfields contribute to affordable housing, public spaces, and quality of life—and what role does it play in strategic planning?

The event will present the Concept for the Development of Brownfields in Bratislava, developed by the Metropolitan Institute. The document creates a basis for the coordinated and systematic regeneration of these areas. It is based on long-term data collection, builds on key urban strategies such as Bratislava 2030 and the Concept of Urban Housing Policy, and supports the principle of a compact city in the new Metropolitan Spatial Plan currently being prepared. The discussion will focus on how the city can actively shape the transformation of brownfields through specific policies and tools that help turn unused areas into fully-fledged urban neighborhoods.
