Both went on to pursue their own paths\u2014Cutler as a drummer, composer, and thinker (Recommended Records, projects with Fred Frith, Cassiber, and Art Bears), Hodgkinson as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and seeker of sonic extremes (from improvised ensembles to ethnomusicological research). In their joint performances, they return to their roots: open playing, where decades of experience meet a willingness to take risks. Unorthodox percussion and the &#8222;expanded sound&#8220; of the clarinet, saxophone and electronics \u2013 improvisation that is as much an exciting conversation between two musicians as it is a continuation of the entire line of European experimental music.<\/p>\n<p>Added to this are the always different and always surprising performances by the variable resident ensemble at A4 \u2013 the Bratislava Improvisation Orchestra. The ensemble is a loose group of musicians playing acoustic and electronic instruments, dedicated to freely improvised music of various forms.
