A pair of short documentaries by Viera \u010c\u00e1kanyov\u00e1 and Tom\u00e1\u0161 Krupa offer contrasting perspectives on the climate crisis \u2013 tourists who, amidst devastating fires, are undisturbed as they enjoy their holiday paradise (Greetings from Rhodes) and a man forced to say goodbye to the island that has been his family\u2019s home for almost two hundred years (Rooted in Water). The films are linked by the question of how much longer we can continue to turn a blind eye to a world that is changing irrevocably.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Greetings from Rhodes<\/strong><br \/>\nTourists enjoy the beach undisturbed, whilst the island is engulfed in flames. In her short film Greetings from Rhodes, director Viera \u010c\u00e1kanyov\u00e1 uses irony and kitsch to expose our talent<br \/>\nfor ignoring crises. Authentic quotes from holidaymakers and travel agency adverts complete the tragicomic picture and urge us to reflect \u2013 how far will we go to maintain the appearance of tranquillity?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rooted in Water<\/strong><br \/>\nOn a disappearing island in Louisiana, a community faces flooding following reckless oil extraction. Can forced resettlement inland save people if it fails to address the cause of the ecological collapse? This observational documentary by established Slovak director Tom\u00e1\u0161 Krupa serves as a unique prelude to the feature-length film We Have to Survive, which is due to be released in cinemas in October 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended age rating: 12+<\/p>\n<p>The digitalisation of Kino inak was financially supported by the Audiovisual Fund.
