Bratislava Music Festival 2018

If you’re a fan of classical music, we highly recommend visiting Bratislava during this period. The 54th Bratislava Music Festival is the most important and most prestigious international festival in Slovakia with a long tradition (1965). The Bratislava Music Festival is an annual presentation of the artistic prowess of renowned international orchestras, conductors and soloists as well as Slovak artists in dramaturgically interesting programmes.

The programme of the 54th year of the Bratislava Music Festival brings a confrontation of the artistic qualities of foreign and home artists in the framework of 25 concerts, which will take place in the Concert Hall, the Small Hall and the Column Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic.

The „orchestra in residence “ of the Bratislava Music Festival is already traditionally the Slovak Philharmonic, which will present itself in the 54th year in four concerts. The Bratislava Music Festival is annually a show of excellent foreign orchestras and soloists. In the 54th year of the Bratislava Music Festival nine orchestras from abroad will guest: Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Collegium Musicum 1704, Great Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, The Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic Lodz, Orchestre de Paris, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, Czech Philharmonic and Latvian National Symphonic Orchestra.

The concerts of the Bratislava Music Festival will be conducted by renowned conductor personalities. Some of them visit Slovakia for the first time (John Storgards, Thomas Hengelbrock and Eivind Gullberg Jensen). Some return to the Concert Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic after many years (Yuri Temirkanov), others presented themselves with great success several years ago at the Bratislava Music Festival and during the philharmonic season (Vladimir Fedoseyev, Pawel Przytocki, George Pehlivanian, Ilan Volkov, Andris Poga, Václav Luks and Semyon Bychkov). Also the “home” conductors of the Slovak Philharmonic James Judd and Juraj Valčuha have to be counted among these foreign personalities.

In the varied programme will appear also pieces by two great composers of the 20th century, whose 110th anniversary of birth we commemorate this year: Olivier Messiaen and Eugen Suchoň. At the 54th year of the Bratislava Music Festival two premieres of pieces by Slovak composers Vladimír Godár and Egon Krák will be performed.
