The concert pays tribute to its great original contribution to Slovak theatre in the area from which the public remembers it the most. He has authored a number of successful musicals and it is the New Scene Theatre that is most associated with them. The director’s staging results combined talent, originality, natural energy, but also humility, zeal, tenacity and diligence. An important chapter of Bednárik’s creative work were his productions of musicals, operas and ballets not only in Slovak but also in Czech theatres.

After the musicals Maria Theresa #poslednámilosť and Boyband, the historical sceneries of the castle will be filled with notes of musical compositions by an immortal artistic genius. Come to reminisce.

Jozef Bednárik (1947 – 2013) is one of the most outstanding representatives of modern Slovak stage-craft. He first encountered theatre in his native Zelenč, where his mother directed amateur performances. His studies at the School of Art Industry, during which he came into contact with the creators of the Theatre Behind the Footlights, had a fundamental influence on his extraordinary vision of the theatre world. During his studies at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, he was most influenced by his teachers Jozef Budský, Karol L. Zachar and Viliam Záborský. In 1971 he became a member of the Regional Theatre Nitra. Bednárik’s artistic and aesthetic outlook at that time matured primarily under the influence of the eminent Czech director Miloš Hynšt. The young actor was naturally drawn from acting to theatre directing. His production of The House of Bernarda Alba (1979) was a striking metaphor, pointing to the state of Slovak society, whose conscience in the prison of humanity was drowned out by false tones and pretence. Jozef Bednárik died on August 22, 2013.
