Opening the city gates

Bratislava once again opens its gates to all Bratislavians and visitors and gives an opportunity to know Slovak capital from close-up

To commemorate unique municipal privilege of electing a mayor of Bratislava, the capital celebrates the Bratislava City Days the fourth weekend of April. The current edition of annual event continues the tradition of this event which not only Bratislava citizens took fancy to.

Around the end of April, the mayor of the town was traditionally elected in Bratislava, based on a charter of the King Andrew III on granting municipal privileges in the course of a relatively long historical period. Recall these glorious times during municipal celebrations.

Look forward to a symbolic opening of city gates with programme and a fencing show on Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m. It will take place near the former Vydrica Gate, demolished at the end of the 18th century while removing the Bratislava city fortifications.

Come to Panská Street near Rudnay Square and celebrate time when Bratislava belongs to everyone.
