Pussy Riot

On September 7, Nová Cvernovka is waiting for a concert by the Russian feminist punk rock band Pussy Riot.

The Moscow-based protest group was founded in August 2011. The group organized provocative partisan performances in public places, the performances were filmed as music videos and posted on the Internet. The collective’s lyrical themes included feminism, LGBT rights, and opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom the group considered a dictator. These topics also include Putin’s ties to the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church.
