Robert Schumann: Paradise and the Peri

Robert Schumann activated the process of aimed revitalization of the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Händel in cooperation with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Germany. Thanks to these authors he learned to know the rules of the oratorio and of the cantata. So his single oratorio Paradise and the Peri after the oriental epos by Thomas Moore Lalla-Rookh stands on a firm basis. As added value can be seen Schumann‘s intention to express the mysticism of the Persian culture, where the ethereal character of Peri is an extensive source of inspiration.
