Symphony of Arts

Another edition of the spectacular open-air festival is planned in Bratislava’s Ružinov

In the first half of September, the international muti-genre festival will offer a number of concerts of various styles, as well as fine arts from art studios and theatre stage.

Particular concerts will take place in attractive and often unconventional surroundings – in front of the renovated factory building, by the lake, in the manor park or in the firehouse.

The first concert of the festival awaits you on the first day of September. On Thursday, September 1, in the square in front of the Pradiareň 1900, for the first time during the more than 50-year career of the Elán group, the greatest hits of this Slovak legend could be heard in the premiere as an orchestral work accoridng to the original authorship of Ľubica Čekovská.

The next day will belong to the jazz of the Visegrad Group countries. Gustáv Brom’s Big Band, led by Vlado Valovič, will host Polish singer Aga Zaryan, a young talent of the Czech jazz scene Marta Kloučková, Hammond organ player Ondřej Pivec and pianist Robi Botoš on the square in front of the Pradiareň 1900.

One day later, one of the most famous contemporary world tenors, José Cura, and the first Slovak symphony orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra under the leadership of its principal conductor Daniel Raiskin, will perform at the same venue again. José Cura will sing a selection of the most famous opera arias together with his two guests, mezzo-soprano Polina Shamaeva and soprano Eva Hornyáková.

Sunday, September 4, will belong to the Fire Classics in the square in front of the Pradiareň 1900. It is a unique project in which a unique Slovak grouping of Gypsy Devils and Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Adrian Kokoš will be presented on one stage.

A remarkable place, the pontoon on Štrkovec Lake, will turn into a romantic nook on Monday, September 5. Famous cinematic, rock and pop melodies will be performed by The Ladies Ensemble. By interpreting modern arrangements in a classic dress, the ladies will convince you that the classic is like a romance.

On Tuesday, September 6, you will find yourself in the fire whirl at the Ružinov firehouse on Peace Street. The Capella Istroplitana chamber orchestra will bring the symbolically fiery music of Vivaldi, Marcello, Falla, Moriccone or Piazolla to the premises of this national cultural monument.

And again, the rhapsody… The amphitheater at Štrkovec Lake on Wednesday, September 7, will be taken over by Bratislava Hot Serenaders and their guests to play the best pieces from their repertoire. They will welcome the multi-instrumentalist Tamás Ittzés not only in violin solos. Czech piano virtuoso Karel Košárek will also present himself to the audience. The concert proceeds will go to charity.

A day later, an operetta will be celebrated in the amphitheatre. Hungarian and Slovak soloists from national opera houses will sing the most beautiful operetta melodies known to operetta literature. The works of the operetta masters from Lehár to Kálmán to Strauss will be performed.

On Saturday, September 10, the Csáky Mansion in Prievoz will open its gates to Symphony of Arts festival to carry the riveting melodies of Giueseppe Verdi’s work Messa da Requiem, dedicated to all the victims of the war. The dramatic masterpiece, performed by artists from the Visegrad Group countries, leaves no soul cold.

The festival will end on Sunday, September 11 with a merry musical adventure for all children. The Carnival of the Animals by the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns will bring a stage full of musical instruments and artists who portray animals and their stories.

Come and enjoy the Symphony of Arts, it will convince you that even the classic is sexy.
