Opened on 29th June 2018 at 6 pm

Hurbanove kasárne, Kollárovo námestie 10, Bratislava

The Slovak Design Center opened the first exposition of the history and present of Slovak design and applied art – 100 Years of Design / Slovakia 1918 – 2018. The exposition presents a selection from the collection of the Slovak Design Museum. The exposition is created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of ČSR and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Slovak Republic.

The exposition presents over 500 items from the field of design and applied arts representing the period from the year 1918 to the present. The exposition aims to create, in an inspiring form, the story of design origin and development in Slovakia including the main fields and phenomena. It will be available for visitors for a minimum of two years, and since September, it will offer a regular programme for the public, guided tours for schools, and lectures on the presented topics.

A team of curators prepared the selection under the leadership of the Head Curator, Maroš Schmidt, he summaries the work on the exposition: “The Slovak Design Museum’s primary mission is researching works of design authors and products of makers/designers and production of companies in Slovakia. The exposition targets to create, in a synoptic and inspiring form, the story of the formation and development of design in Slovakia that includes all important fields and phenomena. Our exploration that does not end with the year 2018, and has much deeper roots than in the year 1918, still continues.”
