Bratislava Fecht 8

Bratislava will once again host one of the largest historical fencing tournaments in Central Europe. The Bratislava Fecht 8, the eighth edition of this international event, will bring together more than 120 competitors from across the world for a full day of intense duels inspired by Historical European Martial Arts.

What is HEMA?

The tournament belongs to HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) – a modern combat sport based on the reconstruction of historical European fighting techniques.

Competitors wear modern protective gear and fight using replicas of historical training swords known as federschwerts.

HEMA combines athletic performance, technical precision, and tactical thinking, often described as a fast-paced version of chess with swords.

One of the largest HEMA events in the region

Bratislava Fecht is considered one of the most important HEMA tournaments in Central Europe.

This year’s edition will feature competitors in four categories:

  • Tier A – elite level
  • Tier B – advanced fighters
  • Tier C – beginners
  • Women’s division

Fights will run throughout the day from 08:30 until approximately 17:00.

International competition and top-level fencing

The tournament will bring together experienced local athletes and international competitors from multiple countries.

Slovak HEMA fighters are well recognized on the global scene, with many achieving strong results at international tournaments.
