Erik Šille in Atelier XIII

🦊Home is the main theme of Šille’s solo exhibition with an eloquent title that is a twist on a well-known Slovak proverb. You don’t have to immediately identify the popular Bratislava housing estate 500 bytov (500 apartments) to tune in to the author’s search for what shapes his surroundings – whether it’s architecture created by humans, but also by birds and other animals, diverse sad and happy stories of people and non-human beings.

🦊Home as a place where we feel safe – but even that is becoming (in addition to rising housing costs) a luxury threatened by global threats (wars, climate change) or disturbed by the intrusion of work into the most private spheres (loved and hated home office). Home, which can become an involuntary prison for many people in a world full of barriers, but also a nest, a cocoon, in which we dissolve in its familiar hug.

🦊Home as a state of mind that we carry with us. Space that we share with those closest to us, who fill it with content that we just sketch alongside normal activities such as talking on the phone or having a conversation. Šille’s “home” is a portable packaging, a concept and a feeling wallpapered with scraps of these meanings.

🦄Monika Šubrtová is a Slovak producer living in London, known for her experimental approach to music creation. Her debut album ‘TOON’, released under Next Festival Records, is a collection of six tracks that draw inspiration from 90’s electronica and techno, as well as film music. Šubrtová uses instruments such as Elektron Rytm MK2 and Novation Peak, creating complex and layered soundscapes, rhythms and textures. The album’s dark atmospheric tracks reflect her creative ability to combine beauty with cold nostalgia.

🦄The TOON album received a nomination at this year’s Radio_Head Awards in the Experimental Music category.
