HOMAGE TO BOHDAN WARCHAL

It is possible to lead discussions about the nature of musical humour; Mozart‘s charming Divertimento about the play of country musicians under the title A Musical Joke is an excellent example. The Mozartian esprit is characteristic also for the music of Bohuslav Martinů, one of the most productive classics of the music of the 20th century. Except for Mozart this author has been formed also considerably by the strong tradition of the Baroque concerto and of the cyclical model of the concerto grosso. The Symphony No. 21 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a piece, which mainly in the first part through the concentration on one motivic core strongly reminds of the composition strategy of Joseph Haydn. Mozart imitates wittily also the more affective style of his Opera rival Gluck.
