Július Schubert – Posledný predseda Bratislavského umeleckého spolku
The exhibition presents the overall surviving work of Bratislava native Július Schubert (*1888 Bratislava – †1947 Bratislava), the last chairman of the Bratislava Art Society (BUS), in the broader context of the art scene in Bratislava. The curatorial concept thus presents, in addition to the artist’s artistic output and the results of new research, a comprehensive picture of artistic life in the urban environment.
The painterly output of Július Schubert has so far been treated only partially and in fragments, even though Schubert played a significant role within the BUS between 1920 and 1945. He had great merits in the field of organizational and exhibition activities. The artistic work of Julius Schubert is fairly well represented in the collections of the Bratislava City Gallery. The curatorial selection is supplemented by works from the estate of the artist’s family and from other public collections. Schubert’s works are set in the context of the art scene within BUS and are presented together with paintings, sculptures and prints by other representatives of this association. The viewer* thus gets a comprehensive picture of the activities of the association, with an emphasis on the work of Julius Schubert.
