Mozart, Strauss, Zemlinsky

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a man of action; he could criticise the circumstances decently, but just as neatly he could find the right tone in popular topics and themes. The opera The Abduction from the Seraglio and its brisk prelude in instrumentation for triangle and the large drum comply with the contemporary taste. Mozart was a role model also for the art nouveau „magnate“ Richard Strauss. The Horn Concerto No. 1 is on the one hand a tribute to the father of Strauss – an excellent player of a demanding instrument, on the other hand a noble compliment to the Mozartean spirit. Also Alexander von Zemlinsky committed himself with his work to the grievous Vienna Secession; following the example of Gustav Mahler he presented to the audience also the grandiose Lyric Symphony.

Concert of the German hornist Felix Klieser

At the age of 4 Felix Klieser expressed the wish to play the horn. Although he was born without arms, he got his first lesson at the age of 5. He learned to operate the triggers with the toes of his left foot. Already at the age of 13, he was admitted by the Musikhochschule Hannover, where he began a regular study of music in the winter semester 2010/2011. Here Markus Maskuniitty, former solo hornist of the Berlin Philharmonic, became his teacher. From 2008 until 2011 Felix Klieser was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Germany (Bundesjugendorchester) where he frequently performed at major venues at home and abroad. In the year 2010 in Innsbruck he received the „Life Award“ in the category „Art and Culture “. In Autumn 2014 Felix Klieser was awarded the ECHO Klassik Prize in the category „Young Artist of the Year (Horn)“ as well as the Music Prize of the Verband der Deutschen Konzertdirektionen. In February 2016 he received the Leonard Bernstein Award.
