New Season Gala

Celebrating the centenary of the foundation of Czechoslovak Republic

Bedřich Smetana: Libuša, Act Three
Eugen Suchoň: Svätopluk, Act Three

In addition to operatic performances, the SND Opera will offer in the new season a number of concerts. The opening event in the 2018/2019 season will be a Gala Concert to mark the opening of the new theatre season. The event will be held on 7 September in the SND new building. The dramaturgical profile of the event shall reflect the centenary of the foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic. Hence, it will present, quite symbolically, the closing Acts of the two national historic dramas, Libuša and Svätopluk by Bedřich Smetana and Eugen Suchoň, respectively. Focal dramaturgical point in both oeuvres is the fulfilled mythical prophecy of lead characters that has been fulfilled by the foundation of our first statehood. Conducted by Jaroslav Kyzlink, music director of the Opera of the State Theatre Prague, and Rastislav Štúr, chief conductor of the SND Opera, the performance shall feature some of Slovakia´s foremost operatic artists, along with the SND Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
