Night Sky Above Devín Castle

The Bratislava City Museum, in cooperation with the Slovak Astronomical Association, has organized the night sky observation event at Devín Castle.

With their guidance and assistance, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the night sky and point their telescopes at celestial bodies such as Jupiter, the Moon, double stars, as well as deep space objects such as galaxies and nebulae.

Schedule:

• 6:30 p.m. – doors open to the public
• 7:30 p.m. – start of the guided tour of the night sky
• 8:00 p.m. – start of observation at the stations
• 10:00 p.m. – planned end

For observation, it is necessary to bring your own lamp, flashlight, or headlamp with a red light function.

Additional information and recommendations:

• It is recommended to dress warmly and wear warm shoes. The event will take place outside Devín Castle, and in the winter months and after dark, the temperature may feel low.
• For the best viewing experience, it is necessary to use only red light throughout the event, which will not disturb the eye’s adaptation to darkness. After exposing the eye to white light from a flashlight or mobile phone display, it takes at least 20 minutes for the eye to readjust to darkness.
• If participants do not have a red light, they can also wrap a regular flashlight in red cellophane, red foil, or red fabric.

The event is organized in cooperation with the Slovak Astronomical Association.
