Piesne z kabinetu: April Marmara + Cavalo55 + Tereza Pavlíková
The eighth edition of Songs from the Cabinet will feature Portuguese artists April Marmara and Cavalo55. The domestic scene will be represented by Tereza Pavlíková.
April Marmara is the musical alter ego of Beatriz Diniz, a singer-songwriter who lives on the banks of the Tagus River in Lisbon, where she writes folk music and wonders about transience.
Her latest album Still Life, the follow-up to her 2018 debut New Home, is a collection of eight tracks, full of cinematic soundscapes and vivid lyrics that question humanity’s relationship with nature and human’s own place in the world. April Marmara’s hypnotic guitar riffs draw the listener into a tranquil trance, only to be gently awakened by the soft melodies of the cello and clarinet, and her unique voice.
Cavalo55 is a multi-instrumentalist, folk singer-songwriter with a heavy americana influence and sound that has drawn comparisons with artists such as Kevin Morby, Lord Huron, and Gregory Alan Isakov. His songs are often delivered with a tinge of melancholy and heart on your sleeve sentiment. Cavalo55 emerged with debut EP Late Harvest, as he looks to continue shaping his musical identity.
Tereza Pavlíková will present her music to the public for the first time. Her songs are an attempt to sensitively illustrate her inner world and her perception of the surrounding world. She creates melancholic, feminine, minimalist, lyrical-atmospheric, layered soundscapes, and even dreamlike worlds, resonating with something deeply human and almost spiritual within us.
