Roman Games & Limes Day 2019

On the grounds of the Rusovce Manor Park and the Gerulata Castellum in Rusovce, the Roman Games will be held for the 22nd time on September 7 between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The program will combine the history of Gerulata, part of the province of Pannonia with the capital of Carnuntum, with the present day emphasising on experience, entertainment and education. It consists of several program parts that fit together and support the interest in history across different age categories.

The event is hosted by well-known Slovak actor Lukáš Latinák – honourable Roman citizen.

Travelling on Archeobus

During the Archeobus activities that are part of Limes Day, participants will visit ancient Roman monuments in Slovakia and nearby Austria. Accompanying materials and expert commentary in the buses, a map of the route and an information brochure about monuments are provided. The role of Lime Days is to educate about Roman landmarks along the Danube border called Lime Romanus that was formedby Roman camps linked by roads. They united us nearly 2000 years ago within one Roman Empire. Its aim is to promote, in particular, the little-visited Roman monuments of Limes Romanus, as well as promote their inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Participants will conclude the journey at the Gerulata Castellum in Rusovce, where they can join the follow-up program of the Roman Games.

Tickets are on sale from August 19 to September 6, 2019, at the Tourist Information Centre on Klobučnícka street no. 2, in Bratislava.

Program in Gerulata Castellum

There is an interactive game for visitors a so-called “speed-dating” activity with people that lived nearly 2,000 years ago in this area. The Gerulata Castellum will include 10 statues that tell their stories written on votive altars and tombstones placed in the museum. The visitor then search for these stone monuments. A Roman clothing workshop and the popular Roman kindergarten are traditionally part of the event.

Program in Rusovce Manor Park

The grounds of the Manor Park will once again witness fights of legions and gladiators. In addition to the Slovak fencing group Tostabur, visitors will also admire similar groups from the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany. The event concludes a large fire show.
