Fats Jazz Band revives the tradition of hot jazz and swing of the 1920s to 1940s. It was founded by Ladislav Fančovič, one of the best Slovak pianists. The orchestra plays original hot-jazz and swing music that will transport you to another world, stir your blood and bring you back to the time of refinement, elegant gowns and hot parties.

Fats Jazz Band is authentic – Ladislav Fančovič transcribes arrangements from original old shellac recordings into sheet music by transcription. Therefore, you have a unique opportunity to hear in their performance exactly the arrangements as they were recorded by the first jazz legends of their time. Also, the restored musical instruments, the stylish dress and the overall expression of the orchestra are in complete harmony with the period they represent.

The Fats Jazz Band’s repertoire includes highlights from the pen of last century’s American jazz legend, Thomas “Fats” Waller, whose name the orchestra borrows for its name. In addition, the Fats Jazz Band performs the compositions of other major figures of the jazz scene of the period, such as Louis Armstrong, Teddy Wilson, Lester Young, Billie Holiday, Clarence Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, Ella Fitzgerald, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, Peggy Lee, and others.

However, the repertoire of this ensemble also includes compositions from the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Whether Slovak foxtrots and tangos, made famous by the doyen of Slovak popular music, František Krištof Veselý or Viera Racková, or ageless Czech film melodies originally recorded by Inka Zemánková, Jiřina Salačová, R. A. Dvorský, Arnošt Kafka and others.
