Yin Yin: Nu Sound Of…

Psychedelic band Yin Yin from Maastricht will perform for the first time in Slovakia on 9 March 2024 – in Bratislava’s Nová Cvernovka. Before this performance, their third album Mount Matsu will be released on Glitterbeat Records.

Looking at the name of the band Yin Yin, it might seem that they have their roots in Asia. But a bunch of kimono-wearing “blondes” hail from the Dutch city of Maastricht. Musical dreamers and night people, as they sometimes call themselves, met while playing at their own DIY parties. From these encounters they later decided to make a mixtape of their favourite music from South and East Asia – Thailand, Cambodia. But since they also wanted to play the music, they brought a lot of instruments to the rehearsal room and in three days a lot of tracks were created.

The band went this way and added other influences – mainly psychedelic sound and disco rhythms. A mix that attracted an ever-growing audience was created. This was the period of the 2019 album The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers (Bongo Joe Records) – inspired by Thai psychedelic rock. Three years later came the equally acclaimed The Age Of Aquarius (Glitterbeat Records) – with a more spiritual and cosmic sound.

Now comes the next era with the announcement of Mount Matsu (Glitterbeat Records), which will be released on January 19, 2024. The inspiration for the new work came from the land of the rising sun – Japan. For the first time ever, all band members Kees Berkers (drums), Remy Scheren (bass), Erik Bandt (guitar), Robbert Verwijlen (keyboards) worked on it, coming up with the concept of immersing themselves in Japanese culture and spicing it up with psychedelic disco, funk, electronica and tribal elements. The concert will thus feature a wild mix of all the albums.

The concert will take place as part of the Nu Sound Of… series.
