Bratislava Jazz Days

Jazzies will once again bring the world’s top to Bratislava

The three-day festival will offer a varied music programme, in which you will find the world’s biggest stars, quality bands from Europe or overseas, but also great Slovak musicians and projects.

The international jazz festival Bratislava Jazz Days is one of the most traditional and appraised events in Slovakia full of jazz and it’s many genres, from traditional to very modern.

The 47th edition of the Bratislava Jazz Days will feature world legends Marcus Miller and Richard Bona, star of contemporary London jazz Yussef Dayes, charming Vojta Dyk with the D.Y.K. project and singers Poppy Ajudha and Cyrille Aimée, as well as Slovak musicians and projects such as AMC Trio, Bashavel or Marek Szarvaš Projekt.

This year, one of the biggest autumn musical events in the country will take place in the new premises of A4 Studio from 21 to 23 October. As usual, the celebration of jazz is not possible without Peter Lipa. The father of Slovak jazz and one of the most important personalities of the Slovak jazz scene will traditionally perform with his colourful repertoire.

The most famous Slovak jazz festival will again offer a concert presentation of the beginning bands at The Stage of Young Talents sponsored by SPP Foundation. Five projects and bands – Hipzz, BFK, Sona Kmet & band, God & Eve and the project Džez a Hrúza – will perform at the concert at Castle Art House on 20 October at 7 p.m. as part of the SPP Foundation’s Stage of Young Talents competition.

The world-famous bass player Richard Bona will be the headliner of the first day. Friday’s programme will also offer a concert by the charismatic Czech singer and actor Vojta Dyk. The festival will premiere his project D. Y. K., which was created in New York and is also supported by the two-time Grammy winner Ondřej Pivec. The winner of last year’s talent competition Marek Szarvaš Projekt will open the evening.

Saturday will belong to contemporary stars (not only) of contemporary London jazz – the brilliant drummer Yussef Dayes and his band, and the singer Poppy Ajudha, who will perform at the festival with her purely female band. She is famous for her unique voice compared to classical jazz singers and repertoire, which knows no genre boundaries, but the common denominator is mainly soul and modern R´n´B. The Slovak representative of Saturday evening will be the Bashavel group, in whose music you will find motifs of folk musical traditions and musical instruments such as cimbalom, violin, double bass, drums and piano.

The last festival evening will be dominated by the world star and top bassist Marcus Miller, who is a beloved of the Slovak audience and returns to the festival regularly. Jazz premiere will be held by French singer with American career Cyrillé Aimée. She won many competitions such as the Montreux Jazz Festival Competition and the New York Times described her as a mixture of Michael Jackson and Sarah Vaughan. On Sunday, fans of Slovak music can look forward to the AMC Trio concert, with which Peter Lipa will also perform as a guest.
