Festival tRadovania 2026

25–26 September 2026

The tRadovania Festival, with the theme “Traditions Living in the Modern World”, brings together traditional culture, contemporary art, music and creative activities. The two-day festival at the Jurkovič Heating Plant will feature concerts, dance, theatre, crafts, creative workshops and activities for visitors of different ages.

Friday evening will feature tRadovanie s…, a programme combining live music and discussions. The guests will include singer Andrea Jágerová, musician and composer Martin “Majlo” Štefánik, and academic sculptor Ján Ťapák. The programme will also feature the female singing group Marína and cellist Júlia Miščíková. The evening will include a screening of the film Pacho, the Highwayman of Hybe to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of director Martin Ťapák. The film features music by Svetozár Stračina.

Saturday from 10:00 will focus on families and visitors of different ages. The programme will include dance and singing activities, experiential theatre, craft and creative workshops. This year, the festival also expands its programme to include heritage and public space. In cooperation with the Pro Monumenta project, visitors can learn more about the prevention and maintenance of historic monuments. There will also be a guided tour of the Jurkovič Heating Plant, a workshop focused on public space and, for the first time, a glass-working workshop.

At 15:00, the 25th anniversary season of the Tanečný dom (Dance House) Cycle, organised by the Dragúni civic association, will open. The cycle is included in the List of Best Practices for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Slovakia. The programme will introduce traditional dances from different regions of Slovakia for various age groups, along with activities including a lullaby singing workshop, a sign language workshop and the ROMA dom programme, which will culminate in a performance by the Roma band Lomnické Čháve.

The tRadovania Festival and the opening of the 25th season of the Tanečný dom Cycle highlight ways of keeping traditional culture alive and making it accessible to different generations. The programme also reflects cultural diversity and the importance of passing traditions between generations.

The event is held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Slovakia’s ratification of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
