CODEnsemble – sea2on: Thirteen Winds – Five World Premieres

*CODEnsemble concludes its second season, sea2on, with the concert Thirteen Winds – Five World Premieres*.***

The season’s closing programme will feature five new works for large wind ensemble, piano and violin, all of which will be performed as world premieres.

The concert programme features works by Jana Kmiťová, Milan Paľo, Marián Lejava, Peter Dan Ferenčík and Anton Steinecker. The individual compositions were written for a line-up of thirteen wind instruments, in some cases expanded to include a solo piano or violin. The concert showcases the CODEnsemble’s more distinctive ensemble approach and follows on from the season’s previous chamber music programmes Solo/Duo and Trio.

The programme’s curation is rooted in a commitment to promoting new Slovak and Central European music. The five composers approach the same type of ensemble in different ways – ranging from concentrated sound structures, through the exploration of subtle internal relationships, to a more pronounced layering of musical material. The common starting point for the works is the wind ensemble, whose instrumentation draws on the tradition of 20th-century chamber music.

The CODEnsemble will perform under the baton of conductor Marián Lejava. The soloists will be Katarína Paľová on piano and Milan Paľa on violin.

The concert Thirteen Winds – Five World Premieres is the third and final concert of the CODEnsemble – sea2on season, which focuses on contemporary chamber music, Slovak compositions and specific instrumental line-ups with an emphasis on wind instruments.
