International Bookclub A4: Reservoir Bitches

The International Book Club at A4 was founded out of a desire to read together, share book recommendations and discuss books within the A4 community of book lovers.

Philippine Saint-Yves and María Noguera Castañer from the A4 volunteering team visited several book clubs in Bratislava and Vienna, but they still felt something was missing. So they began recommending their favourite books to one another, and that’s how the first international book club in Bratislava came into being, right here at A4. This time, they chose Reservoir Bitches by Dahlie de la Cerda. It is a striking and powerful collection of short stories about women navigating the various forms of violence within the world of Mexican gangs and cartels. The book is gritty and emotionally intense, yet surprisingly entertaining at the same time. The aim of the book club is to create a space for exchanging ideas and perspectives and to deepen the reading experience. Discussions take place in English, but the book can be read in whichever language suits each participant.

The event is organised by A4 Volunteering. The project is funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC).
