Jarné Jazzáky 2026: Mohini Dey
The Spring Jazz Festival is back, and on May 9, it will bring Indian virtuoso bassist Mohini Dey to the newly opened Metropolka club in Bratislava.
Indian bassist Mohini Dey, known for her incredible speed, precision, and versatility, will also perform at the Spring Jazz Festival. She earned widespread respect on the global jazz and fusion scene even as an exceptionally talented teenager. She has collaborated with artists such as Steve Vai, Zakir Hussain, Quincy Jones, Vinnie Colaiuta, Stanley Clarke, Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, and Victor Wooten.
In addition to her solo project, she is currently a member of singer Willow Smith’s band, with whom she has also performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and NPR’s Tiny Desk. She has become famous for her talent and ability to play complex rhythms with ease and elegance. In addition to her technical skills and musicality on stage, she also stands out for her appearance and unique stage presence. She cites bassists Jaco Pastorius and Victor Wooten as her role models.
Mohini Dey was born in Mumbai in 1996. She grew up in a musical family—her father was a professional musician—so she was surrounded by musical instruments and music from an early age. Mohini is not only a bass guitarist but also a singer, composer, and arranger. In her solo project, she blends various genres, primarily jazz, rock, funk, and Indian classical music. Her playing is energetic, precise, and at the same time very expressive and airy.
She will be performing in Bratislava for the first time—on May 9 as part of the Spring Jazz Festival at the new Metropolka club.
The Spring Jazz Festival will also bring the band WAAN to Metropolka on May 19, and the spring edition of the Bratislava Jazz Days will kick off on May 6 with a concert by singer Michael May at the E11VEN concert hall.
Early Bird tickets are on sale until April 13 at 12:00 p.m.
