Mária Bátorová: Trvanie

The presentation of the novel Trvanie will take place on February 17 at the Goethe Institute.

Every society is made up of a mosaic of destinies. The novel Trvanie (Duration), which on the surface appears to be a love story or a guide to living a positive and meaningful life, is in fact a highly political text that bears witness to contemporary Slovakia. Through the fate of the main protagonists and digressions into the fates of individuals in the totalitarianism of the 20th century, this novel offers a reflection on the meaning of life and its fulfillment, as well as on the fate of Central Europe during the ongoing process of transition to democracy.

On the 36th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, this book opens an important discourse on several key issues of social development in a united Europe.

The discussion with Mária Bátorová will be held in Slovak. You can look forward to the presentation of both versions of the novel.
