Maria Bertel + Bratislava Improvisation Orchestra
Maria Bertel will be visiting A4 on September 16.
Maria Bertel is a Danish trombonist, improviser, and composer. The amplified acoustic sound of her instrument creates a stream of energy that undeniably draws inspiration from concepts such as drone and noise. During her intense concerts, organic patterns emerge, subtle sounds become clear, as does the range of the instrument’s overtones.
Maria Bertel has previously performed in Slovakia with the female quartet Selvhenter at the NEXT festival. She is also one of the five co-founders of the Copenhagen art collective eget værelse, and performs in groups such as GESH (with drummer Jaleh Negari), the improvisational duo Nina Garcia & Maria Bertel, and others.
The second act will be a different and always surprising performance by the variable resident ensemble at A4 – the Bratislava Improvisation Orchestra. The ensemble is a loose group of musicians playing acoustic and electronic instruments, dedicated to freely improvised music of various forms.
Supported by public funds from the Fund for the Support of the Arts and the Bratislava City Foundation.
