Mikrozvuk #65: Pablo Diserens + Stefan Maier

On 20 November, LOM space will host Mikrozvuk, featuring performances by sound artists Pablo Diserens and Stefan Maier.

Line-up:

• 19:30 Doors
• 20:00 Stefan Maier
• 20:45 Pablo Diserens

Pablo Diserens are sound artists, co-founders and curators of the forms of minutiae label. They focus on the practice of listening, non-human realities and possible forms of interspecies coexistence. In their work, they use a wide range of microphones to capture the subtle, often little-known and inaudible sounds of animals, geological processes and technologies. Their work is rooted in ecological engagement and a connection to specific places, thereby emphasising listening as a political practice.

Stefan Maier – a sound artist based in Vancouver, Canada. In his performance Imaginary Magnitude, he explores digital synthesis as a technology for creating speculative soundscapes. Empty sounds without origin create crude alternative models of reality. A bouncing ball obeys the laws of physics of another world; natural phenomena unfold under unknown atmospheric conditions; a vocal organ, having evolved along a somewhat different evolutionary path, babbles comically. In his performance, Maier alters perception and uproots us from ingrained ways of listening. His last two albums were released on the Shelter Press and Superpang labels. Imaginary Magnitude is also the title of an album due to be released next year on the mappa label.

This project is supported by the City of Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic.
