Rastislav Podhorský: Cosmetics

Exhibition of works by Rastislav Podhorský entitled Cosmetics at Atelier XIII.

Artist Rastislav Podhorský focuses primarily on figurative painting and drawing, but he is also an occasional theorist and curator. His paintings are characterized by a combination of simplicity and unpredictability. He is interested in intense moments in subtle human scenes and strives to combine the unpredictable painting process with the completeness of the final image. In 2021, he received his doctorate based on a practical-theoretical work entitled Protirečník: Rámce a latentné možnosti vizuálneho umenia (Contradictory: Frameworks and Latent Possibilities of Visual Art). From 2017 to 2021, he was the head of the Painting Studio III at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. He currently heads the Delta Painting Studio, also at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. His work is part of many collections around the world. He lives and works in Bratislava.

During Rastislav Podhorský’s exhibition, visitors will be able to listen to a music set created from songs from the album Mental Bubble Memories by music producer Stroon.

Stroon’s solo performances combine a minimalist approach in both electronic and acoustic forms. Straight mid-tempo beats and slower experimental passages are covered with his signature synth pads. On top of this, the sparkling sound of the vibraphone shines through. The songs from the album Metal Bubble Memories were originally created for theater and film, where they were ultimately not used, so Stroon transformed them into standalone songs. The dynamics of theater and film were transferred to their final form, so the album contains more ambient passages as well as livelier moments. Most of the sound on the album is created by digital synthesizers, but the collage of sounds is complemented by acoustic guitars and vocals, this time without his characteristic vibraphone. Stroon continues to develop his relationship with musical pulse as the main driving force. He would like to bring his current sound live to clubs, churches, galleries, and other interesting venues.
