Pezinok Wine Festival
A time has come for vintages, which traditionally take place in the towns and villages under the Little Carpathian mountains
Every year, Pezinok vintage is also a celebration of the grape harvest and a tribute to the high-grade wine grown and produced by winemakers and vintners on the Little Carpathian hillsides.
The renewed tradition of organising the Pezinok grape harvest festivities began almost 80 years ago. Traditional vendabe feasts are primarily a celebration of the work of local winemakers, vintners and also products they produce – grapes and wines. Also this year, the grape harvest festival will bring a varied range of gastronomic specialties and a rich cultural program in the second half of September. You can enjoy the attractions in the stalls and events in several places in the town centre.
Many regional culinary delights await you, tasting various wines and, of course, a young wine. An allegorical procession and a varied programme will delight the soul, eyes and ears. Pezinok vintage is also associated with a number of accompanying events. Everyone will get their due, you just have to make your choice.
Wine lovers can taste fresh young wine, new wines, tasty grapes and please their taste buds with goose, lohsha, pogachas and other delicacies on the third weekend of September. It is not only bread and wine that keep a person alive, so the organizers of the Pezinok grape harvest also think about the mental pleasures in the form of various attractions during all three days of its duration. There is a great programme, performances of bands, folklore ensembles and a lot of accompanying events to choose from.
The vintage ceremony will start on Friday at 5 p.m. in the grandstand in front of the castle with the first sip, fanfare and the blessing of the harvest. From there, on Sunday, the procession will lead along M. R. Štefánik Street to the Municipal Wine Shop on the Town Hall Square. The programme will take place in the central part of Pezinok on two stages simultaneously – in front of the castle and on the Town Hall Square.
On Friday, musical bands will be presented to visitors at the Town Hall Square. A huge show will come from Nocadeň, Vidiek or Karmen Pál Baláž with the band as well as King Shaolin. You can have fun here until 4:30 a.m. at the after-party. Under the castle, the pop will sound again; Saymi or Wet Floor will come. On Saturday, folklore ensembles and folk music as well as country music bands will show you how gifted they are. For example, Smola a hrušky, Majk Spirit and DJ Grimaso, or Heľenine oči are to visit the area in front of the castle. The nightly programme will take care of the after-party again until 4:30 a.m. On Sunday at 11 a.m., an attractive allegorical procession will be led through the town centre. The grandstand in front of the chateau will belong to brass music, while the programme in the Town Hall Square will be carried in the spirit of dance and relaxing music, and visitors will certainly also be pleased by temperamental rhythms.
This year, the Pezinok Wine Festival will be accompanied by numerous exhibitions in the Gallery of Naïve Art in the Schaubmar Mill, the City Museum, the Minigallery of the House of Culture and the Little Carpathian Museum, thematically tuned mainly to the viticultural traditions, and creative workshops for children in the Children’s Craft Town along with thematic art workshops for children in the Castle Park. The wine offer of young Pezinok winemakers in Little Wine Lane will also be included.
The first mentions about the Pezinok the grape harvest festivities date back to the 13th century. During the economic recession at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the beginnings of the harvest were celebrated only in the viechas. In 1934, the city council decided to restore the Pezinok vintages. Just before the World War II, this tradition was interrupted, and only in 1958 new Small Carpathian vintage festivals began to be organized. Until 2004, Pezinok and Modra alternated in their organizing, since then they have been held in Pezinok every year, usually during the third weekend in September from Friday to Sunday.
