P. O. Hviezdoslav City Theatre
Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav Theatre (DPOH) is one of the key municipal theatres in Bratislava. It is located in a historic building in the city centre on Laurinská Street, just a short walk from the Main Square.
The theatre is housed in a national cultural monument that stands out not only for its programme but also for its architecture and artistic design. The façade features distinctive sculptures, while the interior preserves original artistic decorations. The auditorium, foyers, and stage curtain were designed by artist František Gajdoš, and the mosaic stained-glass windows in the foyer were created by the renowned Slovak painter Janko Alexy. The building was completed in 1955.
Culture in the Heart of the City
DPOH offers a diverse programme for a wide audience. Visitors can enjoy:
- theatre performances for adults,
- productions for children and young audiences,
- guest performances from Slovakia and abroad.
In addition to theatre shows, the venue also hosts discussions, workshops, exhibitions, and other cultural events.

A Modern Theatre in a Historic Setting
Performances take place on the main stage as well as in unique spaces within the building, including an industrial-style underground venue. This combination creates a distinctive experience where historic atmosphere meets contemporary art.
