But it is their knowledge capital that make them excellent hosts for international conferences, meetings and intellectual exchange.

Together, Bratislava and Košice showcase Slovakia’s intellectual vitality and creative spirit. Bratislava has become a model to urban centres around the world on how inclusive, sustainable planning can transform the landscape and its communities. The revitalisation of public squares, riverfront promenades and parks demonstrates how liveability, accessibility and green space can be woven into a modern capital, while sensitive urban renewal preserves cultural identity alongside contemporary growth. Crucially, projects led by the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava are rooted in public engagement, ensuring that citizens have a voice in shaping their surroundings.

With extensive use of renewables and large investment in its nuclear industry, Slovakia’s expertise in every area of the energy sector makes it ideal for international knowledge sharing. By 2026 Slovakia will have six nuclear power plants making it one of the greenest countries in the world for electricity. Slovakia is one of the few EU countries with no coal in its electricity mix, improving air quality and cutting CO₂ emissions. The expansion of its nuclear capacity strengthens its independence and ensures lower wholesale electricity prices.
