Bratislava City Days 2019

The Municipality of Bratislava opens its doors to all Bratislavians and visitors. Free entrance to city museums and attractions, free sightseeing tours, free tours by historical tram and many other interesting programmes and events. The event takes place in April 2019. Around the end of April, the mayor of the town was traditionally elected in Bratislava, based on a charter of the King Andrew III on granting municipal privileges in the course of a relatively long historical period.

CULTURE AND HISTORY

The animated documentary (Privilege of Andrew III.) projected on the facade of the Primate’s Palace. The visual show dedicated to the anniversary of the first city privileges granting and giving Bratislava its name. The animation draws attention to the short-term display of an original urban rights granting document in the Courtroom of the Bratislava City Museum.

The Military Museum in the B-S 4 “Lány” Bunker is the best preserved (also renovated) building of the Czechoslovakian fortifications from 1938. It also includes an external massive system of anti-tank and anti-personnel barriers. Guides in military uniforms will guide you through the two floors of the military bunker with special indoor equipment, shooting rooms, functional engine room, quarters, warehouses and firearms collection.
Location: Vienna road, parking in front of the Petržalka-Berg border crossing, about 5 minutes on foot from the parking lot.

QUE VIVA PICASSO

The exhibition presents 123 Picasso’s graphics from Thomas Emmerling’s collection, which provides an overview of his creativity in the field of the graphic work after 1945. In Picasso’s later works, the artist’s enormous vitality manifests itself. In his own words: “It takes a long time to become young.“

GABRIELA ST. GENOIS

The authorship of 24 large paintings in the GMB collection was in 2018 assigned to the painter Gabriele Eleonora Saint-Genois d’Anneaucourt neé Stolberg von Stolberg (1827-1904). Academically untrained, but excellent quality painter created several impressive series of paintings for a villa in the Bratislava Mountain Park.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL JAROVNICE

The exhibition presents paintings created by Roma children from an elementary school in Jarovnice. Children have already won many international awards for their works and their talent has been developing under the guidence of Mgr. Ján Sajko for many years.

THE LORD’S PRAYER OF FRANTIŠEK BÍLKA AND ALFONZ MUCHA

Two different representations of the Christian prayer are presented by the chamber exhibition of drawings and graphics by the sculptor František Bílek and the painter Alfonz Mucha. Bilek’s book was published in 1901 in Novy Jicin, Muchov
