Bratislavský majáles
14th annual city open festival on the Danube embankment in Bratislava with free entry. Two days full of concerts and other accompanying events
This edition of the Bratislava Majáles will be held during the first weekend of May on May 5-6 in the traditional venue on the Danube embankment between the Arena Theater and the city beach. Bratislava majáles is a city open air multi-genre festival that has been held annually since 2008.
With its dramaturgy, the festival follows on from similar urban open air events in other large European cities, such as Donauinselfest in Vienna or The Thames Festival in London. At the same time, in his program he emphasizes, mainly in the form of cultural and artistic statements and civic activism, the importance of important events whose anniversaries fall on the days at the beginning of May, especially the end of the Second World War in Europe and Slovakia’s entry into the European Union.
From a dramaturgical point of view, the festival is based on multi-genre, diversity, tolerance and cosmopolitanism. Live concerts of leading Slovak and Czech music groups and performers form the main part of the program. The concerts are suitably complemented by happenings, programs for children, cycling and, in recent years, also public discussions, workshops and presentations of various civic activities.
