Festival 2019

International Theatre Festival 7 – 14 June 2019

The leitmotif of the coming drama edition of the Festival of European Theatre, is limits. Limits expanding and narrowing. Limits positive and negative. Limits in the mind and existence of an individua, family and wider community or the entire civilisation. Despite the stated freedom and democracy in our cultural and public region or, if you wish, of the Western world, the number of actual and fictitious limits is on the rise. Some of the changing limits are part of the series of new impulses and circumstances in the rapidly changing world.

Other limits are a manifestation of defence reaction. Others are determined by growing paranoid states in individuals or the entire society. Freedom and democracy enable constant change and shift of limits so much so that the theme of their own limits becomes one of the key issues of the day. In the spirit of these shifts and experiments with our limits, contemporary theatre tests its limits, too. Either by testing the extent of its potential and the degree of its public effect, or by testing the limits of production potential – in connection to content and form of the art of contemporary theatre.
