Slovak Philharmonic 70th Season Opening Concerts
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a universal author. But also he had his chosen genres and laid emphasis on Piano Concertos. In the year 1786 he created even three pieces of this kind, the Piano Concerto in A Major as first. Mozart extended here among others the orchestral apparatus essentially and aimed to a model of a great symphonic concerto piece. The Symphony No. 7 by Gustav Mahler is the last piece in the framework of the impressive triptych of purely instrumental Symphonies No. 5 – 7. Although the year 1904 belonged to the more successful in his life and career, the composer did not do without his renowned melancholic rhetoric in the Symphony No. 7 (1905). Sometimes the piece is referred to as Song of the Night – mainly in the context of the two movements entitled Nachtmusik. But Mahler did not agree with this description.
