110 years of the Bratislava – Vienna tram

Discover the rich 110-year history of the Vienna tram at an exhibition at the STM-Transport Museum in Bratislava, which charts the unique transport link between Bratislava and Vienna.

Celebrate 25 years of the STM-Transport Museum in Bratislava and discover a fascinating piece of history through the exhibition 110 Years of the Vienna Tram. Launched in 1914, this iconic electric railway connected Bratislava (then known as Pressburg) with Vienna and became a popular and innovative transport link between two important cities in Austria-Hungary.

The exhibition focuses on the history of this line through a number of exhibits – from period artifacts, documents, and models of vehicles that ran on the line to information panels that introduce visitors to stories and interesting facts related to the operation of the Vienna tram. The exhibition also includes a real GANZ tram locomotive marked P.O.H.É.V. Eg 6 and a freight car chassis marked P.O.H.É.V. Gk 202, which visitors can see in the museum.

The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Club of Friends of Public and Regional Transport and other partners. In addition to interesting exhibits, the museum also offers educational programs for children and young people. For families with children and school groups, there is an interactive program called Searching for the Vienna Tram, which allows children to discover historical curiosities in a fun way. The program includes interactive touch kiosks, accompanying panels, and worksheets with quizzes.
