Adam Šakový – And Only Ashes Remained
In his exhibition at Danubiana, Adam Šakový explores the symbolism of fire to open personal and social themes through a poetic visual language. His paintings blend realism with imagination, evoking emotional states and psychological tension. Figures in his works appear isolated, suspended in time, searching for safety—physically or mentally.
This latest series is more intimate, focusing on the human body and its gestures. Characters remain anonymous, their identities obscured, clad in fireproof suits or exposed in their vulnerability. Šakový’s careful use of materials and symbolism reveals narratives hidden behind the surface, blurring the line between real and surreal.

Adam Šakový (*1987, Zvolen) lives and works in Bratislava. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, he is known for his realistic yet conceptually driven painting. His work has been recognized in several awards and is included in public and private collections.
