The Design Unpacked exhibition at the Slovak National Gallery presents design, applied arts and artistic craft from the gallery’s collections. The exhibition brings together works from different periods and places them in unexpected combinations, showing how objects can reflect both everyday life and major historical events.
The exhibition is built around duos and trios of artworks selected for the visual and thematic connections between them. Alongside well-known works, visitors will find objects from the gallery’s collection that are less frequently displayed, including progressive, problematic and controversial works.
The exhibition features works by Slovak designers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as historic works of art and craft from Slovakia and beyond. The selected objects are presented in different contexts – as part of visual culture, economic and social life, and important historical events.
