Jakub Strýček, Denis Braun: Serious Games

An exhibition of works by Jakub Strýček and Denis Braun titled Serious Games at Atelier XIII.

Jakub Strýček’s (b. 1998) work offers a glimpse into an imaginary lexicon composed of images and assemblages of fragments reminiscent of virtual environments. By thematizing metaphors and the planimetry of image composition, he conveys meaning and visually depicts the abstract. He references the present through the use of elements combined with reflections on current events and selected rules for creating a visual language. The combination of multiple meanings points to a favored way of posing questions to the viewer, but the execution is based on a naturalness that transcends the personality of the artist’s own handwriting. The essence of relevance lies in the balance between the need to show and the need to tell.

Denis Braun (2000) is in his final year of master’s studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU). He has long focused on motifs of nature and their arrangement within the contemporary media landscape. He also responds to current socio-political events and works with space as an active, living element of the exhibition, within which he creates relationships between the viewer, the image, and the environment itself. A distinctive aspect of his work is a gradual distancing from collective mechanisms and interpersonal stereotypes, which is reflected in images of tension, solitude, and the search for an authentic space.

During the exhibition by Jakub Strýček and Denis Braun, visitors can hear a music set composed of tracks by the artist Fvck_Kvlt.
