Between Painting and Illustration
The exhibition Lolo presents the work of Alojz Klimo and his distinctive approach to illustration and painting. Klimo used collage as his main technique, transforming it into a unique visual language based on simplified forms and expressive use of colour.
He worked with roughly cut and torn paper, assembling only approximate outlines of figures. Colour played a key role—bleeding pigments created rich layering and strong emotional impact. His illustrations often include elements of humour and grotesque interpretation.
The exhibition highlights Klimo’s important position in Slovak modern art and his significant contribution to children’s book illustration.
