Mikrozvuk #43: Lucie Páchová + Petr Válek

The Mikrozvuk #43 will feature musicians Lucie Páchová and Petr Válek.

Lucie Páchová:

Lucie Páchová is a sound artist, composer, performer and improviser. In her multimedia projects she combines voice techniques, performance, composition, dance and field recordings. She studied multimedia composition at JAMU and Indian music at Codarts Academy in Rotterdam. She composes for jazz orchestras and chamber groups. She often collaborates with theatre and music ensembles. Her sound installations explore the physical experience of sound, voice and space. Lucie is also a sound nomad. Her revisited journeys to the Bulgarian village of Krandzhilitsa are captured on her album Крънджилица (2023, Skupina), which was also featured in the year-end charts of the British music magazine The Wire, or The Quietus. Lucie will also present it at LOM. Get ready for the sounds of the old world, a deep dive into an acoustic landscape that lies off the edge of the map, off the main roads and on the brink of extinction. The field recordings here are complemented by various musical interventions, playing objects, zither, bustle and shuffle, and Lucia’s sonic memories.

Petr Válek:

Petr Válek is a visual and sound artist, performer, youtuber, inventor, forest walker, garbage virtuoso and last but not least the main inhabitant of the legendary kingdom of Der Marebrechst (you can find it in the middle of the Jeseníky Mountains in the district of Šumperk). He is also the biggest star of Czech experimental music with a legion of fans all over the world. In his work, he creates hybrid objects, which he then sonifies and subjects to brutal performative experiments. The resulting mechanisms are at the same time peculiar works of art somewhere between unseparated waste, assemblage, bricolage, art brut or strange post-anthropo-pagan-heritage DIY. Imagine the Flinstones’ aesthetic and apply it to all contemporary musical hardware, from modular synthesizers to various guitar effects to audiophile turntables, and you’ll come up with Válek’s animistic-prehistoric sound lab. A laboratory in which Válek is an absolute virtuoso. Here you will find various ASMR self-playing, harsh noise etudes, dental ambient or relaxing music. Válek’s work has an international reach, as evidenced by the viewership of the room and basement tutorial videos he posts on his FB and IG account or on his youtube channel called the VAPE. Recently, he has also been working on creating various fantasy-horror and absurd-humor worlds using AI technology.
