Mikrozvuk #44: Janneke van der Putten + Gustavo Costa
The Mikrozvuk #44 will feature musicians Janneke van der Putten and Gustavo Costa.
Janneke van der Putten:
Janneke van der Putten’s artistic practice involves experiences of listening, performances, sound and video, documentations in image/text/textile, workshops, music projects, and creating platforms for mutual cultural exchange. Her voice is her main tool, guiding her through physical and sonic explorations in different landscapes. Engaging with specific sites and local contexts, and through her personal experiences, she investigates (human) responses to her surroundings, and their relation to natural phenomena and transitions, such as the sunrise. Each of her concerts has a unique site-specific character. It will be no different at LOM, where Janeke returns after less than six years. Janeke is currently based in Rotterdam.
Gustavo Costa:
Gustavo Costa is a central figure of the Portuguese experimental scene. He has been working as a musician, composer and promoter for three decades in various musical ensembles and is also known as one of the leaders and most respected chefs of the Porto collective Sonoscopia. Sonoscopia is a cultural space, a residential centre that focuses on the production of experimental sound technologies, educational and community activities, as well as the organisation of concerts. It is simply one of the most important crossroads on the map of European experimental music. Gustavo studied percussion, music technology, sonology, composition and music theory. His compositional work is based on underground counterculture, improvised and electroacoustic music. At LOM he will present Natura Mimesis (2024, Sonoscopia), an album built on musical transcriptions of natural phenomena. Like his earlier compositions, Natura Mimesis is an introspective reflection on the world, where sound is the trigger for abstract and individual interpretation.
