NEXT 2025 – Day 4: Adriana Morn + Bint Mbareh
Saturday evening NEXT 2025: 26th Advanced Music Festival in Klarisky with sound artists Adriana Morn and Bint Mbareh.
Music producer Adriana Morn (Adriána Vančová, also known as timmi) works independently, but also collaborates with others. She draws some of the foundations of her work from sacred music, which inspires her and which she transforms into modified vocal or keyboard motifs. Music is a mystical practice for her. She uses her layered voice rooted in classical singing, which she transforms into various harmonies and microtonal structures. Other important instruments include synthesizers and other keyboard instruments—her first releases feature dense drone layers interspersed with noise, piano, spoken word, and vocals. She is inspired by the overlap of dirty, less concrete, even abstract elements with the crystalline sounds of synthesizers, field recordings, or piano. Her debut album Theosis (2023) was released on the Stoned to Death and Řehole labels. Her other music has appeared on several compilations, most recently on the album Prah released by the Slovak label Warm Winters.
Through her research into Palestinian rain-making songs, sound artist Bint Mbareh revives vocal traditions that historically served to summon rain, build a relationship with the land, and collectively share resources. Her performance shows how this tradition is still relevant and serves as a living force in the context of ongoing Israeli colonialism.
