Night Sky Above Devín Castle
The Bratislava City Museum, in cooperation with the Slovak Association of Astronomers, prepared the fourth night sky observation at Devín Castle.
About the event
Night sky observation will take place on Friday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m. on the exterior of Devín Castle, in cooperation with professionals from the Slovak Astronomers’ Association. With their interpretation and assistance, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the night sky and point the telescope at various celestial objects, including Saturn, the Moon, binary stars, and deep space objects such as galaxies and nebulae. The gates will open for visitors at 6:30 p.m. and the observation with expert interpretation will begin at 7:30 p.m.
For observation, you need to bring your own light, flashlight, or headlamp with a red light function.

Additional information and recommendations:
- It is recommended to wear warm clothes and shoes. The event will take place outside Devín Castle, in the winter months, and after dark, the temperature may feel low.
- For the best viewing experience, it is necessary to use exclusively red light throughout the event, which will not disrupt the eye’s adaptation to the dark. After illuminating the eye with white light from a flashlight or mobile phone screen, it takes at least 20 minutes for the eye to adapt to the dark again.
- If participants do not have a red flashlight, they can also wrap a regular flashlight in red cellophane, red foil, or red cloth.
The event is organized in cooperation with the Slovak Association of Astronomers.
In case of adverse weather conditions, the date may be changed.
Tickets are on sale at the Devín Castle box office.
